II. Massage and Meridians: Reading the Body from East to West

As advertised in L.A Yogi Times, this program is for those with a minimum of 150 hours of bodywork training who want to increase their understanding of  meridians and use it to offer pain relief more effectively regardless of the modality they use.

This course takes you through the meridian system viewing each one as a 'tarot card' of their own. It saves you years of reading time and increases the 'inner map' of the therapist so that you can better see client issues and have more confidence and ability in treating those issues successfully.

Level One: 25 hours

history of Chinese Medicine; fundamentals of Chi; Yin and Yang; fundamental substances; location, palpation and function of Masunaga meridians and classical meridians; Hara and back reflexes; This course focuses on familiarizing oneself with the location and psychology of each meridian and how to begin reading the body from this perspective.

Level Two: 25 hours
pre-requisite, Level One

Working with our knowledge of meridians, we begin to look at leaders in the field of mind/body medicine, drawing a line from energy to physical reaction to pain syndromes: focus is on Wilhelm Reich, John Sarno and Thomas Hanna. Combining these and other systems in relation to our knowledge of meridians we discover ways of working most effectively to unwind pain-causing tension regardless of whether we are using massage, shiatsu or any other hands-on modality.

 

Somatic Stretch:

This original self-help technique (also covered in The Secret Life of Tension) has become one of the most advanced methods for increasing flexibility and redcuing pain through its unique approach to the stretch reflex.

This program is useful for professional and non-professional alike who are looking for stress and pain relief tools they can use for themselves and for clients. Hours are tailor made to need.

Somatic Stretch Teacher training program:

With teachers in both Canada and the U.S and numbers growing, this program is now international with DVD and written material for home use. Week long intensives complete over 100 hours of training.

Yoga and Meridians:

This workshop, taught in partnership with L.A yoga guru Ingrid Boulting, is tailor made for the yogic community interested in deepening their asana practice through meridian awareness.

Level One: 4 hours

what are meridians? how do they function and what is their purpose? We explore the asanas through the expression of the 14 main meridians. Leave with a deeper understanding of the purpose, location and perception of energy flow in your practice.

Level Two: 4 hours

Connect your meridian knowledge to the Bhandas. Deepen your understanding of  Kundalini flow, explore the chakra system with pendulums and leave with an integrated sense of Eastern energy systems in relation to your own body.
